In the work of the sculptor Jáchym Fleig (b. 1970 in Villingen) art reveals its sinister and invasive side. Some of his sculptural installations are suggestive of the colonisation of space by gigantic insects. The ostensible proximity to nature (wasps' nests and other animal-built structures) is the result of the artist's strategic design. Nature can look like art, and vice versa. This has nothing to do with Naturalism.

The abstract formal qualities of the sculptural structures come together in their conjunction with the tangible reality of space or of an object. Fleig's compelling interventions look as though the afflicted building or object (the ‘host') had actually incubated the sprawling excrescence. Voraciously all-consuming and invested with seriousness and humour in equal measure, Jáchym Fleig's expansive installations occupy our everyday ‘reality'.
