The artist Angela Maria Flaig arranges flying seeds of thistles, clematis or dandelions into geometric shapes that look incredibly delicate and fragile, yet at the same time they form a solid cosmos, a structurally sound larger whole.

From 24 November 2013 to 16 February 2014 we are presenting Objects and Assemblages by Angela M. Flaig in the Reading Room and in the Technical Museum Biedermann, which frequently provide a forum for regional artists. Flaig arranges a wide range of flying seeds into spheres, pyramids, bowls or cubes. She gathers her material on walks through the meadows, fields and forests surrounding her home in Rottweil-Hausen. Back in her studio, she sorts the day's bounty. Seeds are never mixed; each of her series focuses on one type of seed alone.

The effect is utterly astounding: the mass of tiny flying seeds, fine feathery down and minuscule granules make us think of chaos, but at the same time there is an order, a floating, meditative weightlessness, an enchanting abundance.

Angela M. Flaig, born in Schramberg in 1948, studied education science in Rottweil and has been exhibiting her work in Germany and abroad since 1977. In her early work she explored the effects of pliage and frottage, used charcoal, sand and handmade paper in investigative pieces. Since the 1990s she has been working with plant material, creating her distinctive herbaria. She moistens paper and sprinkles it with seeds. When they have sprouted she shapes the saturated paper. Alternatively, she arranges seeds into feathery objects, often suspending them from the ceiling from nylon strings to form expansive installations. Flaig enchants the viewer with delicate, almost transparent yet highly concentrated objects that have a powerful aura.
