For his outdoor pieces, Werner Pokorny tended to work with Corten steel. This material allowed him to create weatherproof sculptures of any shape and size. The starting point of many of his works were basic, almost archetypal elements such as a house, a bowl, a vase, a vessel, a rib or a sphere.

Cavities and perforations, the interplay of inside and outside, representation and abstraction are the hallmarks of his oeuvre. Corten steel lends itself to the creation of hard, precisely welded angular forms. Their signature oxidized and rusted surface invests them with a singular presence. Pokorny developed a highly individual style that is marked by the push-pull tension between complexity and simplicity.
