ICHTARGAS

With its grid structure, the sculpture evokes a cage-like space – yet one that is both permeable and open.

The top section, which is made of a special steel, reflects the surroundings – the sky, the trees as well as any viewer leaning over for a closer look. Thus, the surroundings and the viewer become an integral part of the sculpture.

The title ICHTARGAS incorporates the word ‘Targa’, Italian for shield but also the name of a type of semi-convertible car body style.

One possible interpretation the work may bring to mind is that even though many things seem restricted and confined, there is a sense of space and openness that always allows for hope, for a way out, for change.

A symbol of the open sky, of light, of breathing freely.

    Thoughts are free.
