Donaueschingen Music Days | Award ceremony for the FEM needle
Fri, October 20, 2023, 4pmMirror Hall
The Fachgruppe E-Musik (FEM) of the German Composers' Association annually honours personalities who have rendered exemplary service to the cause of contemporary music. In doing so, the FEM wants to inspire cultural-political, social and artistic commitment.
This year's prize "The Needle" goes to the Archive Frau und Musik in Frankfurt am Main. With this award, the FEM honours the archive's commitment to contemporary and historical music by women as well as its outstanding academic work. According to the jury, "the Archiv Frau und Musik contributes to making the cultural heritage of women composers and conductors visible and audible and thus, among other things, makes an important contribution to the equality of women in the music industry".
The archive was founded in Cologne in 1979 and is today the world's largest and most important archive on the music of women composers.
